GeneSpeed Tutorial Page
Welcome to the GeneSpeed Tutorials Page. We will be adding new tutorials on a regular basis so check back soon. If a topic that you need help with is not listed here then please contact us and let us know how we can help. The following tutorials demonstrate key features of the GeneSpeed Database:
GeneSpeed Tutorial #1, Homeodomain Expression
Goal: Find all genes in human containing the homeobox domain and analyze the expression of these genes in the Novartis Dataset
Topics: Keyword Search, Annotation, Output page, InterPro Sub-Search, and Gene Expression Analysis (Absolute Expression)
GeneSpeed Tutorial #2, High Pancreatic Islet Expression
Goal: Find all genes in human islets that have expression values that are >15 fold above median expression level
Topics: Gene Expression Query, Annotation, Output Page, Gene Expression Analysis (Fold Change Analysis)
BetaCell Tutorial #1, Compiling lists of islet-expressing transcription factors
Goal: Find transcription factors belonging to the Basic, Beta-Scaffold, and HTH families expressed in mouse islets
Topics: Transcription Factor Query, Annotation, Output Page, Save Gene List, User Account, My Gene Workspace, BetaCell Ngn3 null dataset, Intersection Of Gene Lists
Goal: Discover kinase-encoding genes that are enriched in either early or late mouse pancreatic development
Topics: Keyword Search for Kinases, Create Trending Gene Lists From Mouse Pancreatic Developmental Time Series Dataset, My Gene Workspace, Intersection Of Gene Lists
Goal: Discover Human genes with high tissue specificity for islet expression, then eliminate false positives in this list by subtracting out genes with more specificity for the exocrine tissue type.
Topics: Shannon Entropy For Tissue Specificity, Novartis SymAtlas
BetaCell Tutorial #4, Pituitary versus Pancreatic Islets: Finding Common Neuroendocrine Properties
Goal: Find genes co-expressed and specific in neuroendocrine tissue types (i.e. pituitary and islets) in order to identify genes involved in producing polypeptide hormones.
Topics: Shannon Entropy For Tissue Specificity, My Gene Workspace, Novartis SymAtlas, Fold-Change above Median Expression Viewer
